Aylesbury Vale Volleyball Club

Club Manifesto 2002/2003

Although this manifesto includes specifc details for the 2002/3 season, it remains a valid expression of the current Vale ethos. See the current Vale Committee and current Vale volleyball fees pages for up-to-date details.

The full rules of the Club are detailed in the Aylesbury Vale Volleyball Club Constitution, a copy of which can be obtained from the Club Secretary. This manifesto is also available in MS Word format.

A Committee is elected annually by the Members at an Annual General Meeting (AGM). The 2002/2003 elected officers are Roger Gudge (Chair), Mandy Looker (Club Secretary), Jeremy Clark (Treasurer), Brian Trubshaw (Fixtures Secretary). There are up to five other Club members on the Committee (for 2002/2003: Sara Clark, Neil Bennett and Frank Webb)

The main Club objectives are to promote and encourage the game of volleyball. To this end we train weekly and enter a team in the local Buckinghamshire league. Our 2002/2003 objective is 'To try to win the league' but in doing so we will endeavour to give all members who desire it the opportunity to play in matches, especially when home matches are played on Training Night (Thursdays). We also play social matches and compete in summer tournaments throughout the Country and occasionally abroad.

The Club has for some years had its indoor training venue at Halton RAF camp. During the Summer (May - September, exact dates confirmed in the Spring) we normally play outside at Stoke Mandeville Community Centre (weather permitting).

The Club is a non-profit making group and has to be self-financing. We have at times obtained sponsorship for which we are extremely grateful.

Club Fees: The Club has ratified the following charges for the 2002/2003 season:

  • Club Membership: £25.00 per year.
  • Indoor Fees: £4 for paid up members.
  • Indoor Fees: £5 for non-members/ non-paid up members. (max. 3 sessions)
  • Outdoor Fees: £10 up front for the whole summer, OR £2 per week.
  • No summer membership category, the above applies to all.

We have a Club Captain, Chris Seal who selects the teams for all League matches. Team selection criteria for matches are:

  1. Regular attendance on Thursdays
  2. Quality of opposition
  3. Player availability
  4. Reliability of player and commitment to the Club.

The Captain's decision is final.

We will encourage members to participate in courses to improve their coaching, playing and officiating skills. Courses in these disciplines are occasionally organised by the Bucks Volleyball Association. For our Home matches (even those played as Home matches away from Halton) the conditions of participation in the league oblige us to provide a referee, scorer and two line judges. These roles will normally be fulfilled by extra players within the team squad who are not on court.

We welcome new players of all standards, although we have some restrictions on the total number of members the Club can sustain. The Club also reserves the right for the Committee to exclude any person who infringes the Club Constitution.
