Welwyn, 6th November 2004 Match Report

3-1 win

Team : Chris, Nigel, Bruce, Roger, Sara, Jem, Nishi and Sascha

First surprise of the day was for Nishi, who had told his friends he was playing at Welwyn Garden Centre!!?? I'll let him explain.

Second surprise was winning our first away match of the season. It was a gutsy performance against a very good team. After losing the first set by only a few points we started the second disastrously, at one stage we were down by 8 or so points. A time-out was taken and after a constructive team talk by Nigel we turned the game around. A glorious spike down the line from Jem and some good blocking and hitting from Sascha saw us claw back the score to win the set. From then on it was another excellent team effort from us all to win the match 3-1.

We have got out of the habit of giving away too many silly points from bad serves etc. which has improved our results. Though we still managed to self-inflict a bad spell on ourselves during the game, we dealt with that well on Saturday and came away with a good win under our belts.

A parting response from their team captain was "looking forward to the return match" so look out!!!
