Aylesbury Vale Volleyball ClubBuckinghamshire VolleyballVale see off Watford in style21 Oct 2007
Vale Vikings 3 Vale kicked off the season in fine style seeing off a strong Watford side 3-1 in what was a close game at the Sportspace Centre Berkhamsted. It was an encouraging performance from a Vale team who had to work hard to overcome this difficult fixture, exciting in attack and demonstrating a good understanding in defence. Vale took their time to get into the game and looked nervous in the first set. Despite some good periods of play, too many unforced errors allowed Watford to take a close set 27-29. It was another slow start for Vale in the 2nd set as Watford ran up a 5 point lead, but strong hitting from Captain Chris Seal and a valiant defence brought Vale back into the game. Eventually they took the 2nd Set 25-19. The 3rd set was a different story as Vale dominated at the net, with setters Artur Figlarski and Sanne Kruze co-ordinating a strong Vale attack. Watford had no answer and the set finished 25-18. Vale continued their fine form into the 4th Set, running up a 7 point lead. However, some defensive errors allowed Watford back into the game and level the scores at 22 each. Vale re-grouped and rallied to eventually take the set 25-23, and cap a good 3-1 win.
