Vale 1

25-18; 17-25; 25-20; 25-14

Vale crashed to their first defeat in the league this season, as Rudolf Steiner avenged the 3-1 Vale earlier this season.

Vale were missing several key players and had to call on the services of Vixen's setter Ania Scigala, who did not disapoint. Steiner on the other hand were hungry to avenge the 3-1 reverse earlier in the season, and came out of the blocks fast. A disjointed Vale team could not cope with hte speed of the Steiner attack.

Vale started badly in the 2nd set, but recovered well, and despite the makshift team, every player was working hard as they showed what they were capable of. THe 2nd set was a different story, with Ania Scigala and James Raymonds combining well in the Middle f the Court. Some strong serving from Tim Chandler and Yohei Higashi allowed Vale to dominate the 2nd set.

Vale took their good form into the 3rd set building up a 54 point lead, but some uncharacteristic errors at service receive led to Steiner being able to fight their way back into the match. Vale crumbled under pressure and lost a close 3rd set.

The 4th and final set saw Steiner dominant. The main attack was coming from Steiner's Middle hitter, stretching the Vale defence all over the court. vale made things ever easier with more unforced errors, and surrendered the final set.

Despite having a much weakened side due to injury and absence, Vale know that they need to imrpove on this performance if they are to meet the club ambition of gaining promotion this season. The league is still in the hands of the team, but when they ust raise their game when they come up against stronger oposition like Steiner.
