Vale 3 Vale got back to winning ways with a comfortable victory over Hatfield last weekend. There was a far better balance to the team with Tim Chandler returning to the Middle position, and Chris Seal returning to the familiar Outside role. Vixen, Ellie Austin made a guest appearance to cover the problem setting position in the first set. Vale got off to a sloppy start however, allowing Hatfield to pick up easy points. Good serving from Sanne Kruize, and impressive setting by Ellie, allowed Vale to take a firm hold of the set and they went on to win 25-17.
It was a good performance from Ellie, but she made way to allow Steve Smith to gain some valuable match experience with only his 2nd appearance of the season. Vale switched to a new formation, allowing further attacking options from the service receive. Despite giving away an unusually high number of unforced errors in attack, the Vale pass was far more controlled and allowed for some big hitting in the Middle of the court from Tim Chandler. The set finished 25-15.
The 3rd and final set saw Captain Chris Seal and Outside hitter Yohei Higashi come to form as Hatfield were ripped apart by the strength of the Vale attack. The final set finished 25-12. This was a comfortable victory for Vale, but they must cut down the amount of unforced errors if they are to continue their drive towards League 1 this season.
